Woman clocked driving at 170km/h banned

A WOMAN who was clocked driving at 170km/h on a motorway — without insurance — has been banned from driving for two years after being convicted of five motoring offences.

Sinead Nolan, 25, of 61 Barclay Court, Blackrock, Dublin, was convicted of the offences at Loughrea District Court yesterday, Co Galway.

The court was told that Nolan was caught doing 170km/h on the M6 motorway at Kiltullagh, Athenry, in Co Galway where the maximum speed limit is 120km/h.

Garda Gerard Kelly said that Nolan, who was not present in court, did not have insurance at the time.

Judge Geoffrey Browne said it was an extremely fast speed to be travelling at.

He fined Nolan a total of €3,350 and disqualified her from driving for two years.

The fines included €2,000 for no insurance, €500 for excess speed, €250 for failing to produce insurance, €350 for driving without a driving licence and €250 for failing to produce a driving licence.
