Greens to call for ‘renewing’ of Ireland
The launch takes place at the trendy Sugar Club on Dublin’s Lesson Street and will herald the beginning of a campaign in which the party will be fighting for its very survival as a political force.
Yesterday outgoing Green TDs focused on campaigning in their home constituencies with the party’s tactics based around local issues as they struggle against a seemingly disinterested, or at worse angry, public and poll ratings of only 1% in this week’s Millward Brown survey.
The local issue strategy will see party deputy leader Mary White launch her campaign today separately in Carlow.
At a press opportunity after the dissolution of the Dáil, Ms White stressed that she hoped her campaign would be assisted by the fact she was the only Carlow-based sitting TD seeking re-election in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency.
Ms White has been stressing local rural issues in her campaign including the decision by the Department of Fiance not to bring forward the ‘pay and file’ deadline for self-employed people, including farmers.
Locally, Mr Gormley has been stressing his victory in halting the Ringsend incinerator to voters in the Dublin South East.
