Conference spotlight on medieval Buttevant

ONE of Ireland’s most historic towns is to host a heritage conference which will be addressed by several keynote speakers.

The three-day conference from March 4 to 6, which is being organised by Buttevant Heritage Group, will focus on the history of the walled town.

Jean-Loup Abbe, Professor of Medieval History at the University of Toulouse, will speak, as will Tadhg O’Keeffe, Professor of Medieval History at UCD.

Eamonn Cotter, a freelance archaeologist with special interest in medieval castles and churches, will also give a lecture alongside Dr Paul MacCotter, a Fellow of the History Department at UCC,

Also in the line up is Dr Dagmar O’Riain-Raedel, a member of the History Department at UCC with a special interest in the medieval era.

The conference will be opened at the local Muintir na Tire Hall, Buttevant, on March 4 at 8pm by Liam Mannix, project manager of the Walled Town Network of the Heritage Council of Ireland.
