Parents get suspended jail term for daughter not going school
The girl concerned had only attended for 15 days in the last two years, Tullamore District Court heard, and despite a number of warnings from the court and the intervention of social workers, the girl’s parents have been unable to get her to go to school.
The parents were each sentenced to 21 days in jail, but that was suspended by Judge Gerard Haughton on condition they keep the peace for 18 months and are not convicted of similar offences.
