Private hospital creates 100 jobs

THE country’s newest private hospital will create up to 100 medical jobs within weeks.

The Cork Medical Centre (CMC), which opened in Mahon last October, announced it will hold a walk-in recruitment day at its facility in Mahon this weekend to fill a wide range of clinical positions in nursing, theatre, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy.

CMC managers will be at the hospital from 12 noon to 3pm on Saturday to meet candidates and to take them on a tour of the state-of-the-art facility.

Candidates were advised last night to bring their CVs to the event. Hundreds are expected to attend.

The jobs are being created following the decision by the hospital operators, Sheehan Medical, to open its suite of operating theatres on March 14.

While Aviva and Quinn are already providing insurance cover for their clients attending the hospital, talks between Sheehan Medical and the VHI have been ongoing for several months.

However, it is understood those talks are at a very advanced stage and a positive announcement is expected soon.

CMC has four operating theatres and a same-day surgery centre with 20 out-patient beds. Once they are open, the main focus of the hospital will be on surgery.

The 140,000 square foot hospital has the capacity to offer over 39,000 patient treatments per year.

The €90 million private hospital was officially opened last October. Operated by Sheehan Medical, it is equipped with some of the most advanced medical technology from Siemens Healthcare, making it one of the most technologically advanced hospital in Ireland.

CMC has 73 single in-patient bedrooms, fully sealed with the latest in infection control.
