DPP file on twin babies’ head injuries
The three-month-old infants were admitted separately to Cork University Hospital (CUH) on January 9 last — the first child was brought to the hospital in the early hours of the morning and the second at around noon.
One infant was subsequently transferred to Temple St Children’s Hospital in Dublin where he is understood to be on a ventilator after suffering a bleed to the brain. He also suffered multiple rib fractures. His condition is understood to be critical.
His twin brother also suffered head injuries and remains at CUH.
Yesterday, a spokesperson for the Health Service Executive (HSE) said they would not be commenting on his condition.
Meanwhile, gardaí are taking statements from family and friends of the infants.
A Garda spokesperson said they had also requested medical reports from the hospitals.
The children were living in the east Cork area with their parents and grandparents.
One parent is a teenager, the other is in their 20s.
It is understood the twins are the couple’s only children.
