Salt supply ships en route

The Port of Cork confirmed the first consignment will arrive at the city’s quays tomorrow. At least three more ships are due to arrive over the following days.

At least 100 trucks will be waiting to distribute the salt to local authorities around the country.

Port of Cork crews are clearing the city’s south jetty of snow and ice to ensure access to the ships.

Meanwhile, the weather has disrupted waste collection across Cork city.

A city council spokesman urged customers to present their bins and dry recyclable bags on the normal collection day, but to take them back in if they are not collected by 6pm, and to represent them for collection by 7am the following morning.
