FINANCE Minister Brian Lenihan could “teach the North Koreans a lesson” because of the sweeping powers he has given himself in new legislation to restructure the banks.

The claim was made in the Dáil yesterday by Labour finance spokeswoman Joan Burton as she opposed the Credit Institutions (Stabilisation) Bill.

The Government rushed the bill through the Dáil last night and it will now go to the Seanad, with the intention of having it fully passed by the end of the week.
