Cigarettes worth €3.6m seized

CUSTOMS have seized more than 12 million counterfeit cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €3.6 million.

Officers and gardaí at Dublin Port first seized a 20ft container marked “Alloy wheels” which arrived from China and a van with four million cigarettes. A man detained at the scene was later released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

In a second operation yesterday morning, officers seized a 40ft container with around eight million cigarettes which had come from Singapore.
