Brave Saoirse ‘starting to grow her angel wings’

THE heartbroken parents of five-year-old Saoirse Heffernan, who recently travelled to the US to undergo treatment for Batten’s Disease, have been told their little girl is “starting to grow her angel wings”.

After a recent rapid deterioration in her condition, Saoirse, from Keel in Co Kerry, who has been battling the rare disorder of the nervous system, is at home being cared for by her family with the help of the local palliative care team.

Her father Tony said the young girl’s heart had stopped on four occasions over the past 10 days, but that it had started again on each occasion.
