SOCIAL Justice Ireland has accused the Government, the IMF and the European Commission of favouring the rich and powerful over the poor and sick in the “hit” of the Irish bailout.

The social protection advocacy group said it was “unfair and unjust” to try to achieve the €15 billion in budgetary adjustments over the next four years by €10bn in cuts and just €5bn in tax increases.

“Ireland’s total tax-take is one of the lowest in the European Union,” said Seán Healy, Director of Social Justice Ireland.
