Young adults get just rewards

PRESIDENT Mary McAleese yesterday presented 57 Gaisce gold awards to young adults from across the country for outstanding achievement either personally or on behalf of their communities.

The awards are presented for prolonged commitment in four areas — community involvement, personal skills, physical recreation and an adventure journey.

Among the awardees were five young people from Cork’s Bonnington and Doras centres, Eoin Beausang, James Healy, Gillian Lenihan Joseph McCarthy and Tracey O’Regan who combined volunteering for a range of different local groups with various sporting achievements including an 80km walk.
