MOTORISTS and commuters could be facing a range of increased costs as a result of efforts by the Government to achieve savings of almost €140m in spending on transport over the next four years.

Various measures could see the introduction of new tolls on national roads and congestion charges in cities, while there is also a possibility that driving test fees may face a hike.

A reduction in the annual subvention to CIÉ by almost 3% next year could result in increased bus and rail fares.
