CORK county councillors have insisted they should be represented on the board of Cork Opera House as part of their €250,000 bailout of the financially troubled entertainment venue.

The demand was made after county manager, Martin Riordan, urged councillors to approve a €50,000 per year bailout of the opera house over the next five years.

Mr Riordan said yesterday that as part of that cash injection he was recommending the council’s contribution be recognised with a shareholding in the company.
