Student rescued from Lee dies

THE University College Cork student who fell into the River Lee on Thursday night has died.

The young man, believed to be 20 years of age and from the small Kerry village of Gneeveguilla, fell into the river at about 9pm.

The major search and rescue operation by fire crews and Gardaí was hampered by the fast current on the evening and it took 30 minutes to get him from the water.
