Baby shirt spells trouble for Dunnes
According to the customer, Jill Ryan, from Wicklow, Ireland’s largest retailer Dunnes Stores is continuing to sell a shirt for babies aged up to 12 months with the tag “Your going to fast in your little car,” which should read “You’re going too fast in your little car”.
Ms Ryan, who purchased the shirt for her four-month-old son, said she was “appalled” when she discovered the obvious mistakes.
“I didn’t notice it at first but when I did I said it to my friends. I didn’t think I was over-reacting, and they were appalled too. I just think it is a sign of general carelessness to be selling something so blatantly incorrect.”
Ms Ryan said she contacted Dunnes Stores’ head office on four occasions and was reassured they had informed the supplier.
However, Ms Ryan said when she asked when the item of clothing containing the mistakes would be taken off the shelves, the buyer informed her the item would not be removed from the shelves.
“I was also informed I was the only person to notice this mistake, suggesting it wasn’t that big a deal and the designer of the top was a mother herself and didn’t really see anything wrong with it.”
Ms Ryan suggested to the buyer the tops be given to a charity such as GOAL so that nobody was profiting financially from the sale , but was met with a similar response — the shirt would not be taken off the shelves.
“I know at four months old that my son can only see the colours, so I am not worked up about it affecting his learning. The buyer did tell me that I can get a refund , but that’s not the issue.
“They claim to be a family business — which to me means children are important — and I don’t see how taking one item off the shelves can damage them.”
Dunnes Stores failed to comment on the issue when contacted by the Irish Examiner.
