Missing tennis coach’s family make fresh appeal
Pearse Cremin from Glasheen Road in Cork city disappeared on October 31, 2000.
A week after he vanished the then 28-year-old was spotted by someone who knew him filling up his car at a service station in Cork.
A person fitting Mr Cremin’s description also called on Christmas Eve 2002 to a guesthouse in MacCurtain Street, Cork. He was looking for a room but the guesthouse was full.
His sister Siobhán says it is heartbreaking to face in to a double-digit anniversary for her beloved older brother.
“How did it go by so quickly? So much has happened that Pearse has missed out on. There are two nieces he has never met and his godchild, who is also his nephew, has made his Confirmation.
“I got a portrait of Pearse done for my mum Monica and it made her year. He is always with her in the room with that portrait there. It is heartbreaking for my parents. He was a mammy’s boy and he came in home every day for lunch. We just want to know what has happened to him.”
A Facebook page about the Cremin disappearance was set up by the family in a bid to track him down. The page has received 1,346 friend requests in a matter of weeks and Siobhán is hopeful that some news will filter through.
“If he is out there and happy and doesn’t want to come home, that is OK. We just want him to get in touch or someone to let us know he is well. All we want is news whether it is bad or good. He is missed so much. This anniversary is particularly hard because it is 10 years.”
Siobhán remains baffled by his disappearance as Pearse never expressed any worries or concerns.
Meanwhile, Pearse’s mother Monica still buys mayonnaise on a regular basis just in case he comes home. It is a symbolic gesture as Pearse was the only person in the family who liked mayonnaise with his food. But for Monica Cremin, the very act of buying a jar keeps her son’s memory alive.
Pearse is described as 5’8”, of slim build, with short red/blonde hair.
