Pensioner conned out of €800 life savings

Tommy Abbot, a vulnerable 61-year-old pensioner, was described as an easy target.

The conman, who posed as a solicitor, offered Mr Abbot the chance to make some money by investing his money in a building society. The pensioner showed the conman his Post Office book and was persuaded to give him €800 he had saved.

Speaking to TV3 news yesterday, Mr Abbot, who lives alone, was in tears as he described how the conman left him with just €100 to his name.

Mr Abbot said he was going to use the money to book into a hotel for Christmas as it’s the time of year he feels most lonely.
