Call to abolish airport tax

OIREACHTAS members in the mid-west have all been urged to seek the abolition of the €10 airport departure tax in the forthcoming budget.

Labour’s Jan O’Sullivan, making the call, said the tax had failed to bring in expected revenues in excess of €100 million annually.

However, she said, it had cost thousands of jobs in the hospitality sector with hotels in the mid-west region and Limerick city, in particular, struggling to survive and maintain jobs.
