GARDAÍ suspect a drink-fuelled row over a football match may have led to the violent death of a man in the picturesque Wicklow village of Avoca.

It’s understood the alleged attacker has admitted to gardaí he was involved in an altercation with the deceased, but it’s not clear if he has admitted hitting him.

Brian Doyle, aged 48, died from head injuries after he was punched in the head and fell to the ground outside a well-known pub in the village on Sunday night.
