Quinn on the ball for prostate campaign
Helping to raise awareness of the disease, Quinn and wife Gillian launched the What You Don’t Know public awareness campaign for prostate cancer, which highlights the “what you don’t know won’t hurt you” attitude of men to their health.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, after skin cancer, and 1 in 12 Irish men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.
Figures also show that one in 34 men will die from the disease.
A new website www.whatyoudontknow.ie gives information on the illness and points to treatment options including prostatectomy – surgery, radiotherapy or hormone treatment.
Action Prostate Cancer (APC), a programme of the Irish Cancer Society, is the leading provider of prostate cancer information and support in Ireland. APC incorporates the Prostate Cancer Information Service, which is staffed by specialist cancer nurses and which provides expert information, support and advice to those affected by prostate cancer and those who care for them. Its first annual prostate cancer seminar takes place on Saturday, November 6.
