Fianna Fáil backbenchers may pull the plug rather than pass hair-shirt budget

IT was supposed to be the Greens who would pull the plug on the Government.

The political narrative went that the junior Coalition partner would deliberately spark some row before the end of the administration’s term and pull out in a bid to demonstrate to the electorate that it wasn’t Fianna Fáil’s poodle.

But the way things are looking now, one wonders whether the Greens will get the chance. Fianna Fáil TDs may well get there first.
