Petrol station cashier, 63, pocketed €6k in cash

A 63-YEAR-OLD man working as a cashier in a busy petrol station was caught on CCTV pocketing €6,000 in notes paid by customers.

John Cooke, of Keenrath, Dunmanway, Co Cork, had been working at the Maxol service station on Cork Road, Carrigaline.

Inspector Bill Duane said Dolores Slyne installed the CCTV camera near the cash register in May 2009 following the death of her husband, Fergus Slyne. Insp Duane said Ms Slyne told gardaí her late husband had suspected that money was being stolen.
