Cutbacks target far higher than €3bn

THE Government will push for much higher cutbacks in the December budget than the €3 billion originally proposed, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has confirmed.

Speaking at a press conference in Government Buildings to announce the final estimates on the bank bailout yesterday, Mr Lenihan said the €3bn target was no longer enough.

“It will require to be upped and it will require a significant adjustment this year,” he said.
