Paddy gets role in Depp movie
Paddy Hanley, from Cooga, Doon, has been brought over to the film set where his expertise at driving horse-drawn carriages is being used.
Paddy, 63, will drive a horse-drawn carriage carrying Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz in the latest instalment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series to be released next May.
Paddy flew out last weekend while 10 of his horses were sent by ferry to the film set.
His wife, Mary said: “People will be looking for Paddy’s name popping up alongside Johnny Depp.
“A lot of the film was shot in America but Paddy is taking part in the shoots in Greenwich in London. He’s enjoying it, but it’s hard work as he has to be on the set before 5am and does not finish until after 7pm.”
Paddy, a former chairman of the Irish carriage driving association, is a carriage driving champion.
He did some work previously for one of the executives involved in the film.
Mary said: “Paddy has achieved an ambition of being involved in the movie business. It wasn’t so much the film-making side of things that interested him, but he’s really enjoying it.”
