A BLACK swan which settled on the Shannon at Castleconnell in mid-August has sought refuge at O’Callaghan Strand in Limerick after a pellet gun attack.

Photographer Kevin O’Dwyer, who has been following the movements of the swan since his arrival, said: “Last week I was in Castleconnell taking photos of the swan when these young fellows came along and started shooting at it with a pellet gun. I told them to stop and they told me in no uncertain terms to mind my own business. They were aiming at the black swan.”

Mr O’Dwyer reported the incident to the gardaí.
