Nation’s farewell to ‘favourite uncle’

THE “nation has lost one of its favourite uncles” is how actor Mick Lally’s son Darach summed up the feelings of sadness which spread far beyond his family at the funeral of his father in Dublin yesterday.

The humanist funeral ceremony for Mr Lally, who died on Tuesday at the age of 64 after a short illness, dwelt on his love of Irish culture and commitment to social causes that defined his life.

In attendance were many actors, among them several who had starred alongside Mr Lally in the RTÉ series Glenroe.
