Áine first crash victim to be buried

Áine Riordan, aged 16, of St John’s Park, Castleisland, will be buried in Clogher cemetery, Ballymacelligott, following Requiem Mass in Castleisland parish church, at 11am.

Large crowds of mourners have visited the Riordan home where her remains reposed over several hours last night.

She is survived by her parents Dan and Mary, and sisters Samantha, Cait and Tara.

There has been a constant flow of sympathisers to the Riordan home over the last two days and nights, including large numbers of young people, many of them weeping on seeing the dead girl’s coffin.

Ms Riordan had been a student at St Joseph’s Secondary School, Castleisland, which will remain closed today as a mark of respect.

Locals described her as ‘bubbly and full of life’ and an intelligent girl who also had a serious side.

Castleisland curate Fr Michael Moynihan said: “It’s difficult to make sense of what has happened… we have to try to be present for the families at this time.”

The remains of brothers David, 17, and Kevin Breen, 15, of Hazelwood Drive, Ballyspillane, Killarney, will be removed from O’Shea’s funeral home, Killarney, at 6.30pm, this evening, to St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney. They will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kilcummin, following Requiem Mass at 10.30am tomorrow.

David Breen was the boyfriend of Áine Riordan.

The funeral Mass for Brian Coffey, 19, of Crohane, Killarney, will be celebrated at Fossa parish church, at 11am tomorrow, with burial immediately afterwards in Aghadoe cemetery.

Hundreds of people have already signed books of condolence at the Ballyspillane Family Resource Centre.

A book of condolences has been opened at the Kerry Diocesan Youth Service centre, in Killarney.
