1,000 protest at hospital opening delay

PROTESTERS in Dingle, Co Kerry, have demanded a full explanation for the delay in opening a new €16.4 million community hospital in the town.

Upwards of 1,000 people who marched through Dingle on Saturday heard speakers call for answers from the HSE and HIQA – the body responsible for registering and inspecting all residential care services for the elderly.

Despite numerous requests, neither the HSE nor HIQA have given reasons for the postponement of the hospital opening which had been due to take place on July 27.
