A 27-YEAR-OLD woman who allegedly received severe burns and blisters after laser treatment to remove hair from her legs has settled an action for damages and breach of contract in the High Court.

Woman settles laser burns claims action

Lorna Barton of Georgian Village, Castleknock, Dublin, took the proceedings against Therapie Body Clinics Limited, trading as Therapie, with its registered office at Molesworth Street, Dublin.

The claims were denied by Therapie.

After negotiations between the sides Richard Kean SC, for Ms Barton, told Mr Justice Vivian Lavan the case had been settled and could be put in for mention next October.

Mr Justice Lavan agreed to adjourn the matter for mention, noting that matters had been resolved subject to compliance and required no order.

In a statement of claim it was submitted that on August 17, 2004, Ms Barton attended the Therapie clinic for her fourth laser hair removal treatment in a course of six treatments. The lower legs and bikini area were treated. During the treatment it was alleged excessive shots of energy were used and she felt intense pain during the treatment. As a result of the alleged excessively intense treatment she suffered multiple burns to her skin all over both legs.
