Brucie hits back at ‘karoke judge’ Walsh

LEGENDARY performer Bruce Forsyth has hit back at claims from pop mogul Louis Walsh that he should retire from show business as he “shouldn’t even be alive at his age” by describing the Westlife creator as “a jumped-up karaoke judge”.

In April, the X-Factor mentor jokingly claimed that the man who has entertained audiences for over half a century should retire because “he’s too old” and “shouldn’t even be alive at his age”.

The Co Mayo music manager made the comment after apparently being infuriated by Mr Forsyth’s insistence the talent contest was “embarrassing”, both for people seeking fame and those behind the show.

However, not to be outdone by the insult, speaking during an interview to publicise the one-off Channel Four programme Living With Brucie, to be aired this Wednesday, the 82-year-old Strictly Come Dancing presenter hit back at his “young” 57-year-old attacker.

“After he said that, there was a lovely letter from somebody praising me and saying how dare Louis Walsh talk like this.

“They said, ‘who’s Louis Walsh? He’s just a jumped-up karaoke judge’.”

In a case more “nice to see you, to see you nasty” than “nice to see you, to see you nice”, the legendary performer added: “I thought that was wonderful.”

The tongue-in-cheek comment came as Mr Forsyth nears the end of a career which began in the late 1930s and has included star appearances as host of The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right, The Price Is Right and Strictly Come Dancing.

In addition to the Channel Four show this Wednesday, the legendary performer will also be the subject of the BBC’s version of popular genealogy programme Who Do You Think You Are? due to be aired on BBC1 next Monday.
