Brian and Amy ready for their big match day

IRISH rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll is used to high- pressure encounters at this stage but today promises to be a whole new ball game as he ties the knot with his fiancee, actress and author Amy Huberman.

The wedding will take place at St Joseph’s Church, Aughavas, Co Leitrim, at 2pm with a reception to follow in the nearby Lough Rynn Castle. The castle is located just minutes from the small town of Mohill and while gardaí will be implementing traffic restrictions, residents don’t seem to be affected by the Garda plan. Business owners were busy painting shop fronts and ensuring the town was looking its best, but that had little to do with the celebrity wedding.

Instead they were preparing for the annual Fleadh Cheoil Chonnacht, which will run from today until Sunday and is expected to attract 15,000 visitors.

Publican Michael O’Carolan said locals were keen to make the town look nice for the day, while butcher Hugh Logan, said people were excited about the fleadh and the wedding.

“It’s a great lift for the town and we love rugby and are very proud of Brian O’Driscoll.”

The couple both arrived at Lough Rynn, the ancestral home of Lord Leitrim, yesterday, although they travelled separately. Last night, security was in place at the castle and only approved guests were being allowed through the gates.

The couple, who turned down several approaches from magazines looking to secure rights to the wedding pictures, have expressed thanks to the people of both Aughavas and Mohill for their help in the organisation of the wedding and said they hoped for a low key event that would cause minimum disruption to those living nearby.

Yesterday afternoon, the couple’s publicist Joanne Byrne was spotted making last minute arrangements at Aughavas Church.

She said the community had been amazing. “Brian and Amy have been blown away by how many people have helped to make their day so special.”

Details of Amy’s dress, rumoured to be a creation by designer to the stars by Vera Wang, were very much under wraps until the last minute, and Byrne said no details would be revealed until the wedding was over.

“Amy and Brian are conscious that they are adding some inconvenience to the town but hopefully the excitement will outweigh the inconvenience and most importantly that the weather will stay good. That will make all the difference.”

Dylan Bradshaw will style Amy’s hair and some of the 250 guests attending the wedding will include Brian O’Driscoll’s Irish and Leinster teammates, Shane Horgan, Gordon Darcy, Denis Hickey and some of Amy’s colleagues from RTÉ drama, The Clinic.
