ENDA KENNY had two peace processes in mind when he visited the North yesterday to discuss healing old wounds, combating dissidents and maintaining unity in the future.

And that was all before he met the leaders of the North’s main parties and dealt, face to face, with two of his party rebels – Brian Hayes and Fergus O’Dowd – for the first time since they tried to oust him from the leadership office in last week’s failed heave.

The Great Hall of Stormont has been the scene of many political power struggles in its time and has seen divisions, negotiations and historic press conferences with promises of unity played out.
