Maynooth chief set to move on

PROFESSOR John Hughes is to leave his job as president of National University of Ireland Maynooth in September after being picked as vice chancellor of Bangor University in Wales.

The Belfast native oversaw a tripling of research income to €34 million and doubled student numbers to 8,000 in six years at the college.

Maynooth governing authority chairman Dan Flinter expressed regret that Prof Hughes is leaving but wished him well for the future.
