Man rescued from marina

MAN had to be rescued at Limerick marina yesterday when his wooden boat, which is over 100 years old, was washed through a safety chain and against a weir.

Darren O’Loughlin, 21, was planning to sail the boat up-river to Killaloe.

But the old 19ft boat was carried back by the flow of water and crashed through a safety chain protecting the weir, which separates the marina from the river.

Members of Limerick Fire Brigade attended the scene and one firefigher went into the water to ensure nobody was trapped in the boat.
