MOTORISTS have no reason to fear that the introduction of speed cameras from next October will be used to generate extra revenue for Government.

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey has said the objective of the new speed camera system is to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries from collisions.

The minister said he anticipated that critics will complain that the speed cameras will be deployed in areas where catching speeding motorists would be like “shooting fish in a barrel”.
