Gardaí renew appeal as McAnaspie’s remains are confirmed
The remains were found last Thursday dumped in a drain on farmland in Co Meath. On Saturday evening gardaí said they had positively identified them as the body of the 17-year-old Dubliner and that he had died of multiple stab wounds.
The body’s identity was confirmed after DNA tests were carried out.
A Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí are renewing their appeal for anyone with information about the disappearance and subsequent discovery of Daniel’s body to contact them at Blanchardstown Garda Station where the investigation is being led by Superintendent Dave Dowling.”
A reward of €10,000 had been offered for information on the whereabouts of Mr McAnaspie, who was last seen in the Whitestown area of Blanchardstown between 3.30am and 4am on Friday, 26 February.
Mr McAnaspie was in state care at the time of his disappearance.
On February 26 he had went with friends to a house in Blanchardstown where a number of people were socialising.
It is believed he later became involved in row with other young men on the street outside the house.
Gardaí say he was not involved in criminality.
