BRIAN LENIHAN will raise again with Irish Nationwide the €1 million bonus paid to its former chief executive Michael Fingleton – but only after being pushed by the opposition to do so.

The Finance Minister admitted yesterday he had not inquired about the issue with the Nationwide board since announcing on March 30 that the institution was to be nationalised at a cost of €2.7 billion to taxpayers.

A stunned opposition immediately pressed him to revisit the matter “as a matter of urgency”.
