A FIANNA Fáil TD has hit out at the “mob-type frenzy” that has led colleagues to give up their ministerial pensions and said if it continues, politicians will be left with “very basic level” earnings.

Jim McDaid, whose Dáil salary is €98,424, is one of the last remaining TDs retaining his ministerial pension, worth a separate €22,487 a year, and insisted last night he will not be giving it up.

“People are in a mob-type frenzy and politicians’ attitude is that where the mob goes, they must follow.
