Waste as councils flouting rules on spending

AN independent audit has found cost over-runs and bad management blighted local government building projects valued at €330 million.

It found many infrastructure projects were not planned properly, tender rules were breached, time deadlines were not met and budgets were surpassed.

In more than two-thirds of cases, spending rules laid down by the Department of Finance were not adhered to.
