25% of people say they are happy to buy medicine online

ONE-in-four people who use the internet for information about medicines are open to buying them online – even though it is often illegal and at least half of online products turn out to be fakes.

A survey by the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) found most people (68%) didn’t know it was against the law to buy or sell prescription medicines over the internet here.

And while almost the same number (66%) had concerns about the authenticity or safety of online medicines, 2% had actually bought products and 9% said they would consider it.
