IRELAND’S economic woes were caused by false assumptions concerning growth, taxation, services and infrastructure, according to a new report published today.

Social Justice Ireland’s Socio-Economic Review, entitled An Agenda for a New Ireland, also calls for a new vision it argues would steer economic growth while benefiting the less well-off in society.

The director of Social Justice Ireland, Dr Seán Healy, said the review highlights the misguided belief that economic growth was good in itself and that whatever supported economic growth was to be facilitated.
