Garda charged with attempted robbery

A MEMBER of An Garda Síochána is due before Cork District Court this morning in connection with the attempted robbery of a shop.

The garda, who has been on leave from the force for the last few months and was serving in the eastern region, was charged at a special sitting of the court yesterday afternoon.

The garda, who is in his 30s and originally from Co Cork, was arrested in connection with the attempted robbery of a shop at Kilmoney Road in Carrigaline, Co Cork, at 1.30pm on Saturday in which an imitation firearm was recovered.

He was detained at Togher Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

He will appear before Cork District Court again this morning.
