A 21-YEAR-OLD man has died and two others hospitalised after a stolen vehicle collided with a taxi in a suspected joyride tragedy.

The incident, at Ballyhooly road in Ballyvolane, Cork city, occurred just after 5am yesterday morning when an Opel Astra crashed into a passing taxi.

The vehicle, understood to have been stolen a short time earlier from Mourne Avenue in the Glen area, was carrying a 21-year-old and an 18-year-old at the time of the collision.

The 18-year-old, who is believed to have been driving the vehicle, and the taxi driver in his 40s were treated for injuries at Cork University Hospital (CUH) but the 21-year-old, believed to have been a front-seat passenger, died at the scene.
