Man and woman critical after crash

GARDAÍ in Drogheda are investigating a serious car crash yesterday afternoon which left a woman and a man fighting for their lives and two men less seriously injured.

Man and woman critical after crash

All four were travelling in a car which was heading towards Drogheda along the Duleek road, which is one of the main links to the M1 motorway.

The woman and man were both said to be in a critical condition while the other two men did not have life-threatening injuries.

All are in their 20s and originally from Eastern Europe.

They had left a nearby housing estate and were approaching a slight bend in the road when the car apparently went out of control.

Initial indications are that the car struck a ditch and overturned.

The impact left the vehicle lying on its roof across one lane of the road.

Emergency medical technicians treated the passengers at the scene and they were all removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

As a result of the crash the Duleek road was closed from 2pm yesterday while gardaí examined the scene.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old woman died in a road crash in Co Donegal just before 4am on Sunday.

The woman was a passenger in a car that struck a wall in Kilmacrennan.

The man driving the car was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Milford Garda Station at 074 9153060.
