Mortar bomb found near station

A MORTAR bomb was abandoned close to a police station near the border in Northern Ireland, it was revealed.

Police said the device in Keady, south Armagh, was viable and could have caused death or serious injury.

Dissident republicans have been responsible for a string of attacks on police officers and soldiers.

Chief Inspector Ken Mawhinney said: “Yet again, a small group of criminal cowards have achieved nothing more than disruption and inconvenience for local people.”
