Opinion divided over €200m wind farm plan

Plans were lodged last month by West Clare Renewable Energy Ltd for the 31-turbine wind farm on 3,000 acres of upland around Mount Callan that could produce enough energy to power 59,000 homes.

Each of the 30 farm families will receive €516,666 over the 20-year operational phase of the project, while an annual fund of €46,500 is to be provided to local communities.
