Limerick crime rate drop ‘due to weather’

THE head of the Limerick Garda division said yesterday a huge drop in crime, particularly burglaries, during the month of January in Limerick city and county, was possibly due to the icy weather preventing criminals travelling on the treacherous road conditions.

Chief Supt John Kerin said latest figures for the Limerick division showed a 37% drop in crime, overall, compared with the same period in 2009.

He said: “Burglaries have fallen 27% from 123 incidents in January 2009 to 90 in January 2010.”
