Body of man is found at shore

It is believed to be the body of Co Limerick man Francis Greene, 48, originally from Kilteely, who went missing in mysterious circumstances on November 28 last.

Mr Greene had been living in a basement apartment in Hartstonge Street, Limerick.

As part of the investigation into his disappearance gardaí recently interviewed a man and as a result of that sent a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The man was arrested and questioned in relation to the suspected false imprisonment of a person.

The Office of the State Pathologist was last night called in to carry out a postmortem on the body, which had been brought to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.

Following Mr Greene’s disappearance a major Garda investigation was mounted.

It is believed that a local farmer came across the body washed up on the shoreline of the Shannon.

The emergency services were immediately alerted.

A Garda source said the findings of the post mortem, which will be carried out today, will determine how the investigation will proceed.
