McLoone to retire within months

AFTER almost 14 years at the helm of the country’s largest solely public sector union, IMPACT general secretary Peter McLoone is to retire within the next few months.

Advertisements were placed in the national media yesterday for what is one of the highest salaries in the trade union arena. A recent survey of union leaders’ pay placed Mr McLoone’s salary at more than €170,000.

The adverts placed yesterday are for a general secretary designate. The preferred candidate will be chosen by the union’s executive following a series of interviews. However, the person they choose will only be a designate until the union’s next delegate conference in May when members will vote.
